11PM - 4AM
DJs: Thris Tian, Nick The Record, DJ Okapi
Entry is free before 11 PM if you are arriving later grab a ticket here.
Thris Tian brings Global Roots to Brighton for the very first time. Expect sounds old & new from around the world; flamboyant afrobeat from Accra, life-affirming Turkish disco, guttural Detroit techno, deep afro-house sounds of Durban, percussive madness from Lisboa, Norwegian jazz-house, lush UK neo-soul and everything in between.
Thris has been dedicating his energies to DJing, TV presenting and leading the creative direction of Worldwide FM alongside Gilles Peterson since 2015. Following on from a creatively immersive five years developing Boiler Room parties and programming, he now presents a weekly, three-hour Global Roots show from London, with guest DJs, live sets, cultural news, and chat.
Nick The Record, as the name suggests, the man owns some serious wax, and we can only imagine that he will come armed to the teeth with said records. Reaching into the bottomless magician’s hat, we can’t wait to see what he reveals. Nick has been quietly involved in the scene for the past 25 years, DJing, releasing the occasional record and selling rare records to those in the know.
Digging up rare vinyl grooves in the city of gold, DJ Okapi brings a forgotten era of South African pop music back to life – especially the synth-fuelled 80s disco-funk known as bubblegum and the unique house-inspired kwaito grooves of the early 90s, connecting them to their contemporaries in other parts of Africa and its diaspora.
